Off-grid solar for remote construction sites
AK Sunpower has developed and patented a portable solar solution that can provide remote construction sites with a stable power supply in less than an hour. The solution, which is EU-patented, is designed to address the challenges of providing electricity to construction sites in remote areas, including Arctic regions, without the use of diesel generators. The system, which comes with a 10 kW backup battery, can reduce costs and climate impact and is a CO2-reducing solution. After a successful prototype period that ended in the summer of 2023, we at AK Sunpower have already started delivering these solar panels to construction sites in Denmark. From the time the customer orders a portable PV system, it takes no more than a month before we can deliver a plug and play solution.
The portable solar panels weigh around 2,300 kilos and are easy to install.
The system consists of four elements with solar cells on each side in an inclined position with a tilt height of just under one meter. When fully unfolded, the total area is about five by eight meters. Its design makes it easy to set up, and when the need arises to move it to another location on site, it can be packed and reinstalled in around an hour.
Of course, the system can also be used as a CO2-reducing supplement on construction sites that are already connected to a traditional supply network. With just one of our systems, you can reduce emissions on your construction site by approximately 1.5 tons of CO2 annually.
